**Well, apparently I’m back.**

A very large, very international bump in website traffic showed up this morning. The source turned out not to be a glowing review or a sudden outbreak of excellent judgement, but a warez release of the current Windows catalog—“patched,” naturally, and supposedly supplied with a keygen.

No, they did not break Ed25519 across the Stillwell catalog. A valid license for an unmodified official plugin requires that product’s private signing key. Calling an executable a keygen does not make that cryptographic miracle occur. It more likely means the plugin was altered not to check correctly, and the accompanying program produces whatever the altered build expects—or does something else entirely.

There are a few concrete trust signals worth knowing:

- Our official Windows installers are **EV-signed**. A modified or repackaged installer cannot retain that valid signature. If Windows reports an unknown publisher, produces an unexpected SmartScreen warning, or you are instructed to turn off security software, it is not the file we shipped.
- Modifying a macOS plugin invalidates its **Apple code signature** , which is why patched Mac releases run directly into Gatekeeper and notarization problems.
- **AAX has its own PACE signature.** Alter the binary and Pro Tools should refuse it. Including an `.aaxplugin` in a folder is easy; producing a modified AAX plugin that Pro Tools will actually load is another matter.

Please don’t investigate any of this on a machine you care about. Keygens are ideal Trojan horses because the victim has already been conditioned to ignore antivirus warnings and grant the program the benefit of every doubt.

Our official evaluations are fully functional, don’t phone home, don’t install an activation service, and don’t require computer forensics to remove. If you want to try the plugins, get them directly from us:

Yes, piracy is irritating. I would much rather have people support the work if they use it. But after all the rebuilding, new releases, Linux work, and CLAP work this year, I can at least appreciate the darkly comic implication:

Stillwell Audio has apparently become worth stealing again.
